The city started another program, called AmbuDog, which is a dog ambulance. In this program, every canine may get all the vaccinations and medical care they need. AmbuDog can provide the important vaccinations for the newborn stray puppies right away. The AmbuDog program may help to reduce the spread of diseases among homeless dogs. Fewer diseases for stray dogs should translate to fewer diseases for people too! (1)
How To Help A Stray Dog?
If you see a stray dog and you feel you want to help, your safety is still the first priority. You don’t know if the dog is sick, injured, or carries any disease. A stray dog may attack you all of a sudden, and you may get scratched or bitten. You need to be careful when approaching a stray dog. If the pooch looks or acts threateningly, you should step away.
When you feel you’re not capable to restrain the dog by yourself, you may call the local animal control. If you’re able to transport the dog, however, you should take him to the nearest animal shelter or veterinarian.
Before you decide to keep the canine, you need to contact animal control and take the pup to a veterinarian for an examination, and to see if he has a microchip. Many pets are reunited with their families because they have a chip between their shoulder blades with their parent’s information. You may also need to notify the nearest animal shelters because someone may already be looking for him. To find the pet parent, you may also post flyers and create a post about the dog’s identification on social media. (2,3)
