SKIN ISSUES AND YOUR DOG'S DIET

SKIN ISSUES AND YOUR DOG'S DIET

"My 1.5 year old dog had skin issues and we had put her through so much to help her. From high-end foods, to meds...nothing worked. But then I saw an ad for TruDog and figured why not? And then within less than two days..."

What Causes My Dog's Skin Issues?

Skin and coat issues are the reason for up to 40% of all vet visits. It's very important for your pup to have a healthy coat and skin since they are the first line of defense against the outside world. Most reported skin and coat issues are related to:

  • Atopic Dermatitis - a condition usually caused by seasonal allergies due to mold, pollen or dust. Hot spots also tend to occur in coordination with seasonal allergies.
  • Food Intolerance - Occurs when a certain ingredient (such as dairy) simply isn't processed by your dog's body.
  • Food Allergy - Occurs when a dog's body creates histamines which is triggered by certain proteins. Usually this happens due to over-exposure to certain proteins.
  • Fur/Hair Loss - Can be caused by allergies, infection, parasites, bacteria, disease, or a number of other issues

Whether your dog suffers from dermatitis, allergies, hot spots, or just dry itchy skin, these can usually be traced back to inadequate nutrition in his diet.

According to Tammy Hunter, DVM, "A dog whose diet is inadequate to meet his dietary needs will have a dull, dry hair coat and will often shed excessively. If your dog’s skin or coat problem is caused by an underlying health issue, the general health of the skin and the quality of the hair often improve dramatically when the illness is brought under control through treatment, which may include dietary changes."

A healthy coat and skin relies heavily on essential Omega 3 fatty acids and even Vitamin E in the diet. These can be found in a number sources including seafood, nuts, seeds, grass-fed animals and dairy products. With a traditional kibble diet, most nutrients have been cooked out during high-heat processing, leading to inadequate nutrition for your dog.

A raw food diet, the diet our dogs were built to eat, contains the balanced blend of nutrients our dogs need to thrive. The Omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin E, and other nutrients that help keep their skin and coat in tip top shape can be found in real, raw meat and organ meat...something you won't find in most commercial dog foods.

"I was searching for a dog food that my Collie would actually get excited about eating again. He's 12 and has started to slow down and indifference to meals was causing me alarm. I discovered that the previous boutique dog food I had been feeding him had actually been depriving him of essential nutrients and his coat and muscle weakness was the result of the wrong diet.

I switched to TruDog and he LOVES eating again, his coat is shiny, his energy level is almost back to normal . . .I am so happy I found TruDog. They deliver quickly, are affordable, have a wide variety of food options and are easy to prepare. I wholeheartedly recommend TruDog foods and just wish I had found you sooner! My Collie does, too!"

"My dog will not eat any kind of dog food. He is very picky...but he will eat dog poop. Since introducing him to the Feed Me raw food, he loves it and isn't interested in eating dog poop any more! My dog will be 2 years old in June. He is a pure breed Shih Tzu. I have tried MANY kinds of food since he was a puppy. I am so glad that I decided to try this food."

"My vet put my new pup on the best "prescription food". He explained how this food was better than the normal stuff you buy in the pet store. She really doesn't like it though. So I gave her TruDog treats and she loves them. She loves the chews. She loves the Boost Me. I finally broke down and got her the Feed Me. I mixed in with her regular food and she picks out all of the Feed Me. She gobbles it up. She has a LOT of energy and looks great! My little Malshi is spectacular. Thank you TruDog!"

"My Golden Retriever and grand dog, a Boxer Mix, absolutely love this food.... they follow me around at dinner time waiting for their raw beef dinner like they haven't been fed all day.  They love love this food so much. The older guy has more energy now since he's been eating TruDog and his coat is shinier than ever."
